You may be wondering — what happened to July and August? Well, while the rest of us were busy with our daily routines, our beloved rice farms at the three KDC schools were just as busy quietly doing what they do best: growing!
Some fields began their journey in neat nurseries, while others were sown directly into the soil, each chosen carefully to match its condition. And oh, what a sight they have been!
But the real story, dear readers, is not just about the rice. It’s about the people — particularly at KDC Kychum, where our headmaster has transformed from a man of books into a man of the land. Once “just an academic,” he is now proudly both scholar and farmer.
His track record speaks for itself:
In his very first year, starting with 6 bushels of rice, he harvested 26 bushels.
In the following season, 8 bushels produced an impressive 37 bushels.
This year, we are hoping for another increase, though limited farmland may keep the gains modest.
Yet, numbers alone don’t tell the whole story. As the lead farmer and headmaster, he has also become a pillar of generosity. From his harvest, he donated an entire sack of rice to support food for youth and volunteer students at Robat and Tawuyah schools. A true leader, indeed.
Meanwhile, with limited funding, the schools have shown remarkable creativity and teamwork. They’ve leaned on community involvement for labour and pooled their energy to keep the project thriving. But while the spirit is strong, they still need support to provide meals for those working in the fields. And as we all know — the pictures tell a thousand stories better than words ever can.
Every step we take towards empowering education and growth in Kambia District is possible because of generous supporters like you. If this story inspired you, please consider making a donation today. Your contribution, big or small, helps us bring lasting change.
