They say a picture tells a thousand stories… but sometimes the picture is just sitting there looking green, and the story still needs to be told.

At Tawuya, the farm prep was done almost like a choreographed dance — everything happening in sync to save time and line up the timing of all those fiddly preliminaries. The field (and no, not the mangrove swamp kind — I double-checked before embarrassing myself!) had to be made ready well in advance. First came the weed killer, then the patient waiting game while the grass gracefully keeled over. By the time the greenery had given up, the nursery seedlings were standing tall and ready for their big relocation.

Now, if I’ve explained the steps in the right order, then let me just say — I may not own a hoe or a pair of wellies, but vocally, I’m on my way to becoming a professional rice farmer.
